DigiPixInc Technology why are websites important in the social media age photo1

Introduction:

Remember those times when website were just simply the text online? That was early 90s. Than photos came along with animated gifs, audio and finally video. In the end of 90s, new personal sharing methods begin in form of Blog, where the average person can share their thoughts easily and affordably online. Blogging got very popular, but then in early 2000s the “.com” crash happen and people lost the trust and faith on websites for a while.

Keep visitor focused when visit your website

The first form of social media was myspace.com in the early 2000s. Than Facebook came along in 2004 and people start thinking that we can rely more on social media compare to websites. The shift on mobile and privacy concern alerted people that using social media only for business is not a solid solution. Business needs proper and professional websites; where they can choose to showcase, their products and services. Website designer should be able to manage the content themselves when making a professional website.

The first form of social media was

Businesses on social media only?

There are still several businesses, out there who have only a Facebook page for business profile. Not very many businesses have both website and social media to support each other. That cause big mistake for folks, in offices, who are not allowed to login on Facebook from their office computer due to office policy. So if someone send the link to Facebook page, there is no way to see it until you log into Facebook. This creates the wrong impression about the business structure because social media are for linking people to you, but if some people don’t want to go on Facebook or any other social media links, businesses are missing out on a potential customer or client.

Why need website?

Seven years ago people were asking us, why we need websites, when we have social media pages or channels. As a rule of thumb, in any business, never get intimate with flashy things until they proven to be good over some time. In 2007, after introduction of Apple iPhone, revolution happened that change the concept of people to browse and see the sites from desktop to mobile. Now clients are asking how we make site optimize for mobile. Well the answer is the site needs to be responsive on all platforms like desktop, mobile phone and tablets. You can either have responsive look of the site or a fixed look, which shows the site same as desktop. It depends on personal choice for each client.

Assurance of business

Website gives authority to the business; with a name and brand that belongs to the company. Anyone can create a Facebook page or YouTube channel for any company’s name, but that does not mean they own that company. With same token when visitor see the business name and site name belongs together, than they feel trust. Another way to find out is when you go in contact us of website and see the address. If address seems local, not P.O.Box than it gives more value to your branding. Than the local phone number makes the whole difference.

Business can manage content lot better & organize compare to social media sites

Content Control

Context or content is the key for any business on websites. That is why many big businesses, like Apple and Microsoft, use all content, like text, photos and videos on their own servers. It is key for businesses to have absolute control over its content because you are responsible for your postings and you do not want anyone to post wrongful comment.

For example: the dentist showing some photos of patient’s tooth on his site, and he post the link of photos from Facebook Photo Album. Now the Facebook Photo album cause headache to visitor because link want visitor to join or login Facebook in order to see photos. Not to mention if business use Flickr or Picasa photo album they show all sort of different suggestions and samples from other users which is distracting for your customer. Same thing happen with YouTube videos too where you see competitors videos right after yours and businesses wonder why they lose business.

DigiPixInc Technology why are websites important in the social media age
Keep visitor focused when visit your website

Keep visitor focused

The key for website is to deliver quick information of what the visitor wants to see. No distractions or Ads. No social media plugins on main page, where you feel embarrassed in middle of meeting with your board members when they show your Uncle Johnny, fishing in lake Simcoe without his T-shirt, because he just updated his profile photo just before your meeting. When people don’t get what they want, they leave your site and go to your competitor’s.

Businesses with Facebook pages only loses business because of distraction occur on Social Media sites. Its good to have social media connectivity but its essential for visitor to come to your site for your product and service.

Desktop vs mobile sites

Another way to design your website is to design it with separate layouts for mobile and desktop devices. In case of separate site design for mobile and desktop designer carefully design the site lighter and faster for mobile and keep the touching and slide option in mind. Some responsive sites act like desktop in wide view and some act like mobile as tall view on mobile devices. It all requires planning and design structure.

Since 2014 the number of mobile users has surpassed the number of desktop users. Therefore it is necessary to design the site responsive which means your site fits on any browser, platform and device. DigiPix Inc. is designer all websites as fully responsive since 2015. All new clients get mobile friendly sites which transform themselves depending on device resolution.

Search engine optimization

When customers are searching for businesses they prefer the see the websites instead of Facebook page as valuable source of information. On the other hand Google, Bing and Yahoo search engines also give you better presence if you have properly optimized site design. The website design and marketing consultant needs to fill all the dots to tell search engine that you are the better than competitor and it will only going to happen when you have properly crafted site design with social media integration.

DigiPixInc Technology why are websites important in the social media age
Track your visitor where they are coming from & what they are seeing on your site

Website tracking

Free website tracking tool like Google Analytics gives you inside report who is visiting your site and from where. That gives businesses idea to monitor the traffic on their sites and make necessary adjustments to the content to provide better content and material for visitor to read. You also get the information which computer and internet browser clients using so you can better serve them. For example, if people are searching and visiting your site mostly from east end while your retail shop is located on west end than this tells you that it’s time to open another location on west end.

Contact Us forms on website

Contact Us forms are great way to collect quick customer’s information. Customers also feel comfortable to leave message discretely with or without giving their phone or email. This also comes very handy if customer calls you while you are driving and ask you to write down information. You can simply ask them either to email you or if they are on site, just fill the contact us information form and we will reply you as soon as possible.

Conclusion

Websites are important in Social media age because they help businesses connect with people directly and work as team to expand. Use social media tools to connect with your customers and see what others are saying about your product or services. When people see positive reviews and feedback they appreciate it and call you. And that’s what businesses need, phone call ring in time of millions of distractions.

BBC New corporation is using WhatsApp for their news update

Gone are the days where news outlets are giving fax numbers to receive information. With the advancements of internet and smart phones with high speed wireless data, it is easier than ever to share information on the go while it is happening. BBC World News introduced for the first time WhatsApp as a contact number on its news service in February 2015.

Check the article about it;

Why use WhatsApp?

WhatsApp is most popular for its App to App calling, text messaging, picture and audio sharing. A small amount of businesses are starting to see the potential to connect their consumers via communication Apps, like WhatsApp or Viber vs traditional calling or email. Most important, WhatsApp is free for iOS, Android, Windows Phones and Symbian. With real time messaging capabilities, it is no wonder it is the world’s best messaging App.

BBC News is first News media outlet (at the time of writing) to utilize a Mobile App to connect with people globally. It is a major shift in communication with news agencies from non-traditional methods of phone and emails. For developing stories, it is remarkable to have the communication from the local people who cannot make long distance calls or don’t have access to emails. BBC is asking people to give them news update on the ground

It is an undeniable fact that someone doesn’t have a mobile phone these days. People use to hesitate giving away their mobile numbers 10 years ago, but with new privacy laws implemented in Canada, you can now give your mobile # relatively worry free. Also with the advancement of mobile Apps like WhatsApp and Viber it is easier to contact other people or simply ignore them.

On January 18, 2016 WhatsApp announce to remove yearly fee restrictions for using App and keeping it Ad Free. This is huge jump for this popular mobile App. with Chrome browser extension on desktop so you can send and receive messages from your desktop computer at work or home.

It is the new wave of connecting businesses & news agencies with the public. The only question is who gets their hands on this technology to get the benefits first. DigiPix Inc. also welcome users to contact us using WhatsApp and Facebook message on our website DigiPixinc.com.

Every successful business has a plan on how to deal with customers, lenders, investors and supplies on a level that they will understand. But the people who keep these things going are the designing, developing and marketing teams who design and maintain your website.

Online reputation management and business image is critical in today’s market for all companies big and small. Companies realized that SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SMM (Social Media Management) are of vital importance.

Many elements required to make your internet marketing a success

DigiPix Inc. is one of the few companies who designed the website content, graphical interface, filmed video segments then published and marketed all of this professionally. Sharing someone else’s content on your Facebook has little value. You bring attention to someone else’s brand instead of yours. Statistics show that people share content very often, especially through photos and video. Having quality video segments makes your business look good to people who want a nice summary about what your business is all about. It is like a short movie trailer for your business.

Quality content created with photos,
videos, blogging & social media postings

Internet marketing is something your business needs to do. Which is why elements such as a mobile friendly website, responsive design, SMM, blogging & online networking and marketing need to be updated and/or maintained on a regular basis.

DigiPix Inc. offers a complete online marketing package using OnPage SEO, OffPage SEO, Google Adwords and social media paid advertising and management. We have quality SEO and SMM for ShammysAuto.com. Click on Shammy’s Auto social media links in footer to check out.

ShammysAuto.com final designed website snapshot

After the branding of Shammy’s Auto was done, it was time to make a website. Shammy Bhagaloo has a high standard for business and he said he wanted the best website in the industry. At DigiPix, we always think outside the box. Now was a test with a premium client and high expectations.

First, we started running the data through our SEO (Search Engine Optimization) department. The higher traffic auto sites in Canada and U.S. sometimes aren’t even optimized for the newest tools in the web industry. After careful discussion with our design team and website developers, we came to the realization that the client has a lot of input into the design of the website which can affect its final numbers in a search engine like Google.

The old Shammy’s website was plain and simple. However, it had broken links, badly optimized images, pour site flow and loading speed. We have to scrap the old website and start from scratch.

Our design team began work on the concept and flow of the site. However, the SEO manager wanted to have lots of text on the home page while the other designers wanted a sharp, clean looking site. Here are a few of the original mock-ups we made:

Initial concept of website was very direct and simple. But there were too many shades of red. In order to keep all audiences happy, we could not heavily depend on just one colour in the design.

DigiPixInc Case Study shammysauto-com website design
ShammysAuto.com initial website concept

This second concept was much cleaner. The red was only in the header and footer with a white body of the page. However, Shammy wanted the website to be even bolder in design. We also wanted the website to be mobile friendly and responsive.

DigiPixInc Case Study shammysauto-com website design
ShammysAuto.com secondary website concept

The third design (which you will see shortly) got the final approval from all divisions and Shammy. Some people say it is missing those colours and shades that made the logo so exciting. We wanted to show Shammy’s Auto on a larger canvas as a more mature leader in auto detailing. The design of the website has the following parts:

Header of ShammysAuto.com website

DigiPixInc Case Study shammysauto-com website design
ShammysAuto.com website header Desktop snapshot
DigiPixInc Case Study shammysauto-com website design
ShammysAuto.com website header Mobile snapshot

The header of the website is the most important part of whole site design. Most often other designers don’t pay attention to this but it is crucial for site as well as business growth. The time, contact and address in header make the website gives better results in SEO as well as reduce the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) from the customers. For example, many people call from the website and instead of asking what service they need, they ask do you provide free estimates? Or free inspection? What time you close or business hours?

So we wanted to put complete information in header, both for desktop and mobile versions of the site. So when customers call, they already know the commonly asks questions.

Menu of ShammysAuto.com website

DigiPixInc Case Study shammysauto-com website design
ShammysAuto.com website Menu on Desktop snapshot

Menu of the website plays major role in site flow. It needs to be simple and straight forward. Too many words in menu can cause confusion. You use the menu to access almost every part of the site such as package deals, reviews and what services are offered.

We attempt to make different site
than the traditional auto industry

On the Mobile phone, the menu looks beautiful as well

DigiPixInc Case Study shammysauto-com website design

Slider of ShammysAuto.com website

Website’s slider plays an important role in website decoration as well as bringing latest updates and promotions on the site. Consider this as small Power Point presentation for your business. We used industry’s leading slider by bringing clean look with shadows on desktop and no shadows on Mobile.

Body of ShammysAuto.com website Home page

The major part designing the landing (Home) page of a website is crucial for SEO, site flow and user experience. We wanted to give users the maximum amount of information with minimum clutter by maintaining a responsive layout for mobile and tablet users.

DigiPixInc Case Study shammysauto-com website design
ShammysAuto.com website body Desktop snapshot

During the design, we wanted to make sure that we didn’t bring the services too early onto the page. That comes off as desperate for business. Instead we offer alternate reads such as case studies (like the one you are reading now) and an introduction to what Shammy’s is. Follow this up with videos from the organization itself and you get an idea of who they are and how committed they are to their business.

Then there is a page dedicated to all of the services that Shammy’s provides. The top 10 services out of the 24 offered are shown with photos and an explore button for further information about the service.

The section after the major services has FAQs and Testimonials. It is important to engage the client on the home page and let them read about the services and brand before they make any decisions.

DigiPixInc Case Study shammysauto-com website design
ShammysAuto.com website management and clients snapshot

Further into the site we introduce the owner and management team. When you put a face to the business, you can easily build a relationship between the business and your clientele. This also shows that this business is growing by showing more than just the owner and also the depth of care brought to customer service.

We were going to show awards in the banner below the pictures of the management team, but it has less value when gaining visitor trust. We chose to use car dealerships in Pickering and Ajax to show that Shammy’s is a big business that maintains the high level of quality in these auto dealerships.

DigiPixInc Case Study shammysauto-com website design
ShammysAuto.com website call to action on Home page snapshot

The contact button is also important because it allows casual visitors to leave a note or message without calling or texting directly. This makes it easier for clients to leave information or questions and then follow that up later on.

DigiPixInc Case Study shammysauto-com website design
ShammysAuto.com website footer on Desktop

Lastly, the footer is the final piece of the puzzle. Like any good story, you need a beginning, middle and end. We needed to make sure to inspire the customers in the beginning and ending the most. The footer has the complete information setup that could not fit into the rest of the website. The contact information is complete with all related links such as Facebook, Twitter and car gallery photos that were detailed at Shammy’s.

The tagline is a small but crucial part of business branding. Making an effective tagline is simple if you follow these three rules

  • Rule #1 Simple
  • Rule #2 Easy
  • Rule #3 Sweet
DigiPixInc Case Study shammys auto tagline
Shammy’s Auto logo with tagline.

We considered many taglines for Shammy’s Auto and asked how long they were planning on staying in the detailing business. Here are some taglines we considered:

  • Premium Car Wash
  • The Car Wash Experience
  • Ultimate Wash
  • Ultimate Shine
  • Ultimate Car Wash & Detailing
  • Car Wash’s Destination
  • Great Car Wash, Done!
  • Detailing Made Simple
  • Detailing Made Easy
  • Advanced Car Wash
  • Crystal Clear Wash

Since the business growth was also a factor, we needed more than washing and detailing. While editing the tagline, we shouted “It’s time to shine!” as an idea. After running the tagling through family, friends and co-workers, everyone liked it. It is simple, concise and powerful. Plus you can add onto it as the business grows.

We changed the tagline on the finalized logo and Shammy was thrilled with how it turned out.

Retro Concept of Shammy’s Logo

When we got the assignment of rebranding Shammy’s Auto in Pickering, we were requested to make something out of the ordinary. Our design team did the research and came up with options for retro, classic and modern logo designs. All logos were custom designed by us.

This logo below shows a simple car with no branding or influence or other manufacturers. The left side is dark to show the car being dirty while the right side is clean after the services that Shammy’s can provide.

DigiPixInc Case-Study shammys auto logo design
Seal of Protection by Shammy’s

The arched writing of both the title and tagline show how Shammy’s Can protect your vehicle. The ribbon also gives this logo a feeling of guarantee and approval so that trust is built between Shammy and his customers.

Given three concepts of logos with extra
ordinary detail helps Shammy’s brand

The classic logo was difficult. There are numerous shading techniques in the editing process that were complicated. We researched cars to base the classic logo off of and chose to use a 1950s Ford Thunderbird from the side view. Ford Thunderbird is all time American Classic.

DigiPixInc Case-Study shammys auto logo design

Classic concept of Shammy’s Logo

From bumper to bumper, the shadows and shading made the car look 3D and really pop off the logo as something important. Since we are showing the design of a car from the 50s, it made sense to use a 50s-style font as well. As you can see, the classic car with the classic font makes for an elegant, eye-catching logo.

Classic 1950s writing were used to write Shammy’s Auto

The shield on which Ford Thunderbird was standing were also kept simple but in two shades. Upon looking closely you will notice that it is a balance design of 3 tires. Yes, the grey quarter circle is the spare tire of Thunderbird. The shield also kept in dark red left side and light red on right side for the vision of car comes in Shammy’s dirty and leave shiny.

DigiPixInc Case-Study shammys auto logo design

This logo seems simpler from the classic one. But log of thought went into designing this one. First off, we wanted to design the logo without car to distinguish between retro and classic examples. But designed need to also show car’s some feature to relate with auto industry. We decide to give name a proper position in the logo vs the car or car part.

DigiPixInc Case-Study shammys auto logo design
Shammy’s Auto logo close up

First we were thinking to keep the word Auto center, but letter ‘y’ was taking the right hand side and over taking the word Auto. We decided to keep the Auto on top of ‘y’ and make it slightly smaller than Shammy’s word.

Logo’s Grill

While this logo may seem simpler than the classic logo, a lot of thought when into the design. We designed this logo without a car to distinguish it from the retro and classic examples. But we still included a car feature in the background of the logo. The grill of the car is the most prominent feature when viewing the car from the front. We blended it in with the large, shiny letters and made it feel that Shammy’s Auto is just as important as a part of your car.

The modern car grill is bold statement of the car’s look and with intense research we decided to go with Chrysler 300 grill because it’s masculine, powerful, strong and give the culture of bold and bigger grill design for Automotive industry since 2005. The popular design of Chrysler’s 300 grill set the standard for other cars to follow and now you can see it everyone using big grills whether it is Bentley, Cadillac Escalade, Ford Fusion, Chevrolet Spark, Cruze and Nissan Sentra are the name of few examples.

The tagline was not decided until after the logo was made. We wanted to tie the tagline into the logo but not give it more attention than the title. By bolding the type of the tagline and keeping it at a smaller font, the tagline becomes important but it is not bigger than the title.

The final logos were delivered in two forms, Red Background and White Background.

Services delivered:

DigiPix delivered full services to Shammy’s Auto including branding, photography, video, website design, SEO (search engine optimization), social media management, social media marketing, reputation management, content writing, graphic design, poster printing, technology consulting & business advising.

History;

We were referred by one of our clients to Shammy’s Auto back in November 2014. Our initial observations indicated that Shammy needed better branding and a new website. Upon further research, we found more complications with the website design, social media and Google AdWords. During the first consultation, we advised Shammy to completely overhaul his brand, design and online marketing strategy.

Service Done:

DigiPix began working on Shammy’s in March 2015. To accomplish our ambitious goals, we worked through a number of phases:

Phase One – Branding:

Making Shammy’s logo and appearance stand out in the automotive industry was challenging. The old Shammy’s Auto logo was just SHAMMY’S AUTO DETAILING INC. written in simple bold font capital and didn’t have any identity to the business and brand representation. We need to come up with complete new concept to bypass traditional auto detailing business logo.

DigiPixInc Case Study shammy auto
Shammy’s Auto old logo

The logo needed a more modern conceptualization to catch the eye of potential customers. We suggested the removal of “Auto Detailing Inc.” because the full business name does not need to be in the logo. By simplifying the name, there is now room for a tagline and more services under the same brand.

Our design team got to work on few concepts initially but Shammy was focused to show car’s outline in the logo somewhere. We wanted to design bold, powerful and future proof logo which attracts on first attempt and can last up to 15 years before consider re-design again.

After careful research and looking at the modern cars we decided to show the car in logo with 3 concepts. First concept was retro, second one was classic and third one was modern.

After displayed the logo at Shammy’s Auto office for more than a week, Shammy chooses the modern concept of logo. Mostly people also liked the modern logo as well in our general survey.

DigiPix Inc. also designed business cards, appointment cards, envelopes and promotion posters.

Phase Two – Website Design:

Shammy’s Auto old website was not up to the modern standard of mobile compatibility. So we completely overhauled its design. Read full case study about ShammysAuto.com website design.

Phase Three – Marketing:

Based on Google searches, customers of Shammy’s would search for services through mobile technology rather than on a desktop computer. By doing the OnPage and OffPage SEO (search engine optimization) we brought Shammy the business he deserves from mobile and desktop searchers.
