After the branding of Shammy’s Auto was done, it was time to make a website. Shammy Bhagaloo has a high standard for business and he said he wanted the best website in the industry. At DigiPix, we always think outside the box. Now was a test with a premium client and high expectations.

First, we started running the data through our SEO (Search Engine Optimization) department. The higher traffic auto sites in Canada and U.S. sometimes aren’t even optimized for the newest tools in the web industry. After careful discussion with our design team and website developers, we came to the realization that the client has a lot of input into the design of the website which can affect its final numbers in a search engine like Google.

The old Shammy’s website was plain and simple. However, it had broken links, badly optimized images, pour site flow and loading speed. We have to scrap the old website and start from scratch.

Our design team began work on the concept and flow of the site. However, the SEO manager wanted to have lots of text on the home page while the other designers wanted a sharp, clean looking site. Here are a few of the original mock-ups we made:

Initial concept of website was very direct and simple. But there were too many shades of red. In order to keep all audiences happy, we could not heavily depend on just one colour in the design.

This second concept was much cleaner. The red was only in the header and footer with a white body of the page. However, Shammy wanted the website to be even bolder in design. We also wanted the website to be mobile friendly and responsive.

The third design (which you will see shortly) got the final approval from all divisions and Shammy. Some people say it is missing those colours and shades that made the logo so exciting. We wanted to show Shammy’s Auto on a larger canvas as a more mature leader in auto detailing. The design of the website has the following parts:

The header of the website is the most important part of whole site design. Most often other designers don’t pay attention to this but it is crucial for site as well as business growth. The time, contact and address in header make the website gives better results in SEO as well as reduce the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) from the customers. For example, many people call from the website and instead of asking what service they need, they ask do you provide free estimates? Or free inspection? What time you close or business hours?

So we wanted to put complete information in header, both for desktop and mobile versions of the site. So when customers call, they already know the commonly asks questions.

Menu of the website plays major role in site flow. It needs to be simple and straight forward. Too many words in menu can cause confusion. You use the menu to access almost every part of the site such as package deals, reviews and what services are offered.

The major part designing the landing (Home) page of a website is crucial for SEO, site flow and user experience. We wanted to give users the maximum amount of information with minimum clutter by maintaining a responsive layout for mobile and tablet users.

During the design, we wanted to make sure that we didn’t bring the services too early onto the page. That comes off as desperate for business. Instead we offer alternate reads such as case studies (like the one you are reading now) and an introduction to what Shammy’s is. Follow this up with videos from the organization itself and you get an idea of who they are and how committed they are to their business.

We brought 3 major services first: Auto Detailing, Rust Proofing and Remote Car Starter before other services.

Then there is a page dedicated to all of the services that Shammy’s provides. The top 10 services out of the 24 offered are shown with photos and an explore button for further information about the service.

The section after the major services has FAQs and Testimonials. It is important to engage the client on the home page and let them read about the services and brand before they make any decisions.

Further into the site we introduce the owner and management team. When you put a face to the business, you can easily build a relationship between the business and your clientele. This also shows that this business is growing by showing more than just the owner and also the depth of care brought to customer service.

We were going to show awards in the banner below the pictures of the management team, but it has less value when gaining visitor trust. We chose to use car dealerships in Pickering and Ajax to show that Shammy’s is a big business that maintains the high level of quality in these auto dealerships.

The contact button is also important because it allows casual visitors to leave a note or message without calling or texting directly. This makes it easier for clients to leave information or questions and then follow that up later on.

Lastly, the footer is the final piece of the puzzle. Like any good story, you need a beginning, middle and end. We needed to make sure to inspire the customers in the beginning and ending the most. The footer has the complete information setup that could not fit into the rest of the website. The contact information is complete with all related links such as Facebook, Twitter and car gallery photos that were detailed at Shammy’s.

We considered many taglines for Shammy’s Auto and asked how long they were planning on staying in the detailing business. Here are some taglines we considered:

Since the business growth was also a factor, we needed more than washing and detailing. While editing the tagline, we shouted “It’s time to shine!” as an idea. After running the tagling through family, friends and co-workers, everyone liked it. It is simple, concise and powerful. Plus you can add onto it as the business grows.

We changed the tagline on the finalized logo and Shammy was thrilled with how it turned out.

Retro Concept of Shammy’s Logo

When we got the assignment of rebranding Shammy’s Auto in Pickering, we were requested to make something out of the ordinary. Our design team did the research and came up with options for retro, classic and modern logo designs. All logos were custom designed by us.

This logo below shows a simple car with no branding or influence or other manufacturers. The left side is dark to show the car being dirty while the right side is clean after the services that Shammy’s can provide.

The arched writing of both the title and tagline show how Shammy’s Can protect your vehicle. The ribbon also gives this logo a feeling of guarantee and approval so that trust is built between Shammy and his customers.

ordinary detail helps Shammy’s brand

The classic logo was difficult. There are numerous shading techniques in the editing process that were complicated. We researched cars to base the classic logo off of and chose to use a 1950s Ford Thunderbird from the side view. Ford Thunderbird is all time American Classic.

From bumper to bumper, the shadows and shading made the car look 3D and really pop off the logo as something important. Since we are showing the design of a car from the 50s, it made sense to use a 50s-style font as well. As you can see, the classic car with the classic font makes for an elegant, eye-catching logo.

The shield on which Ford Thunderbird was standing were also kept simple but in two shades. Upon looking closely you will notice that it is a balance design of 3 tires. Yes, the grey quarter circle is the spare tire of Thunderbird. The shield also kept in dark red left side and light red on right side for the vision of car comes in Shammy’s dirty and leave shiny.

This logo seems simpler from the classic one. But log of thought went into designing this one. First off, we wanted to design the logo without car to distinguish between retro and classic examples. But designed need to also show car’s some feature to relate with auto industry. We decide to give name a proper position in the logo vs the car or car part.

First we were thinking to keep the word Auto center, but letter ‘y’ was taking the right hand side and over taking the word Auto. We decided to keep the Auto on top of ‘y’ and make it slightly smaller than Shammy’s word.

Logo’s Grill

While this logo may seem simpler than the classic logo, a lot of thought when into the design. We designed this logo without a car to distinguish it from the retro and classic examples. But we still included a car feature in the background of the logo. The grill of the car is the most prominent feature when viewing the car from the front. We blended it in with the large, shiny letters and made it feel that Shammy’s Auto is just as important as a part of your car.

The modern car grill is bold statement of the car’s look and with intense research we decided to go with Chrysler 300 grill because it’s masculine, powerful, strong and give the culture of bold and bigger grill design for Automotive industry since 2005. The popular design of Chrysler’s 300 grill set the standard for other cars to follow and now you can see it everyone using big grills whether it is Bentley, Cadillac Escalade, Ford Fusion, Chevrolet Spark, Cruze and Nissan Sentra are the name of few examples.

The tagline was not decided until after the logo was made. We wanted to tie the tagline into the logo but not give it more attention than the title. By bolding the type of the tagline and keeping it at a smaller font, the tagline becomes important but it is not bigger than the title.

The final logos were delivered in two forms, Red Background and White Background.

DigiPix delivered full services to Shammy’s Auto including branding, photography, video, website design, SEO (search engine optimization), social media management, social media marketing, reputation management, content writing, graphic design, poster printing, technology consulting & business advising.

History;

We were referred by one of our clients to Shammy’s Auto back in November 2014. Our initial observations indicated that Shammy needed better branding and a new website. Upon further research, we found more complications with the website design, social media and Google AdWords. During the first consultation, we advised Shammy to completely overhaul his brand, design and online marketing strategy.

Service Done:

DigiPix began working on Shammy’s in March 2015. To accomplish our ambitious goals, we worked through a number of phases:

Phase One – Branding:

Making Shammy’s logo and appearance stand out in the automotive industry was challenging. The old Shammy’s Auto logo was just SHAMMY’S AUTO DETAILING INC. written in simple bold font capital and didn’t have any identity to the business and brand representation. We need to come up with complete new concept to bypass traditional auto detailing business logo.

The logo needed a more modern conceptualization to catch the eye of potential customers. We suggested the removal of “Auto Detailing Inc.” because the full business name does not need to be in the logo. By simplifying the name, there is now room for a tagline and more services under the same brand.

Our design team got to work on few concepts initially but Shammy was focused to show car’s outline in the logo somewhere. We wanted to design bold, powerful and future proof logo which attracts on first attempt and can last up to 15 years before consider re-design again.

After careful research and looking at the modern cars we decided to show the car in logo with 3 concepts. First concept was retro, second one was classic and third one was modern.

After displayed the logo at Shammy’s Auto office for more than a week, Shammy chooses the modern concept of logo. Mostly people also liked the modern logo as well in our general survey.

Phase Two – Website Design:
